Other Driver Pay
The following compensation items apply to both Company Drivers and Contractors, except where indicated.

  • Stop Off Pay: $15.00 per stop on mileage pay (not including the final stop); for revenue pay, the stop off pay is built in to the rate.
  • Loading / Unloading: Whenever a driver is asked to load or unload, they will be compensated for their work. This is determined on a case-by-case basis by Fleet Managers and can be paid on an hourly basis, or by a set fee. For contractors with loads working on a percentage basis, stops, loading or unloading is built into the rate. No other compensation will be made.
  • Special Cases: Occasionally Volume will have special freight which carries pay that applies only to the loading/unloading/delivery of that particular freight. Currently, the following are in force:
    • Kmart store deliveries out of California Cartage, $100.00 per trailer to unload
    • Kmart store deliveries out of Newnan DC, $95.00 per trailer to unload
    • Glidden Paint out of Oakwood, GA (to ICI stores only), $45.00 per trailer to tailgate
    • Whirlpool out of Ellenwood, GA, $45.00 per trailer to tailgate.
  • Detention Pay: Detention is paid to Contractors at $20.00 per hour. Detention pay is determined on a case-by-case basis by your Fleet Manager. The amount of detention depends on the customer. Volume must allow different customers 2, 3, 4 or sometimes more hours free before we start the clock to bill. Drivers are paid detention only when Volume can bill the customer for the time.
  • Layover Pay / Breakdown Pay: $35.00 for half layover, and $75.00 for full layover (each full 24 hour period following the first 24 hour period). Your Fleet Managers will determine what you are due on a case-by-case basis. Drivers will not receive Layover or Breakdown pay if it is determined that they caused or contributed to the situation by their own actions.
  • Equipment Shuttle Pay / Local Work: Depending on the circumstances, your Fleet Managers will determine what you are due on a case-by-case basis. You may be paid by the hour, or by a set fee.
  • Trip Advances: Volume will allow personal advances up to $125.00 per calendar week (Tuesday to Monday). There is a $1.75 fee for each transaction. All personal advances, as well as any transaction charges, will be deducted from the next check.
