About the Owners

Joe Coleman, CEO
Joe Coleman has devoted his entire career to the truck transportation industry. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in 1976 with his B.S. degree in Mass Communications, Joe went to work for the Mason-Dixon Lines, Inc., in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time, Mason-Dixon was the largest privately owned common carrier in the United States.

After two years with Mason-Dixon, Joe opened up the Atlanta market for S&W Freight Lines, a regional LTL carrier based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Taking full responsibility for both sales and operations in the Atlanta market, Joe helped the company grow from $2 million in revenues to $6 million in just two years.

In 1981, Joe became a partner in Southern Freight, Inc., a LTL carrier specializing in the Florida market. As executive vice president, Joe was instrumental in building Southern Freight's revenues from zero to $20 million, growing the company from two employees to 350 in just eight years.

After selling his interest in Southern Freight, Joe had a one-year non-compete contract and he became partner and president of Porter Coleman Communications, Inc. Porter Coleman was a full-service advertising agency for the transportation industry. When Joe's non-compete contract was over, he sold his share of Porter Coleman and founded Volume Transportation Services.

From the outset of Volume Transportation Services' creation, it was always Joe's intention to get back into the asset-based side of the transportation industry. Thus, in 1992 Volume Transportation Inc. was formed and two tractors were purchased to usher in the beginning of Volume's freight carrier business.

Today, Joe still plays a very active part in both companies he founded and will continue to play a vital role in the growth of these companies. He is also actively involved with cure childhood cancer serving as Vice President for the nonprofit organization. Cure is a corporate charity supported by the Volume companies that supports two major fundraisers a year that Joe and his wife Jeana were instrumental in starting and helping to grow.--For more information on Cure Childhood Cancer please visit www.curechildhoodcancer.org
