General Driver Guidelines

  1. All applicants must be at least 24 years of age.

  2. Applicants/drivers over the age of 65 must pass a DOT physical and eye exam ANNUALLY.

  3. Must possess 2 years OTR experience verifiable within the last 4 years.

  4. Must possess a Valid Class A CDL for class-8 Tractor/Trailer operations.

  5. CDL must be issued by the State in which you are currently domiciled/reside.

  6. Applicants must provide 10 years of work history; contact/telephone #’s for all previous employers.

  7. Previous employers will be verified for the preceding 3 year period; all periods of unemployment must be accounted for, documented, and will be verified.


  9. Applicants may be required to undergo additional safety training as a pre-qualification condition.

Safety Criteria

DOT/Moving Violations – 3 Year History (unless otherwise indicated)

  1. No suspension/revocation of CDL for safety related reasons.

  2. No more than two (2) Preventable Accidents.

  3. No lifetime history 383.51 Table 1 convictions.

  4. No 15 MPH or over speeding convictions.

  5. No 383.51 Table 2 convictions.

  6. No more than 3 moving violation convictions.

  7. Less than 3 moving violation convictions will require remedial Unsafe Driving training as a pre-qualification condition.

  8. No more than 2 moving violation convictions in the last 12 months.

  9. No CDL driving disqualifications.

  10. No possession of Alcohol/Controlled Substance convictions.

  1. No driving while suspended/revoked (after driver has been notified) violations.

  2. No lifetime history of driving while disqualified.

  3. No lifetime history of driving in violation of an Out-of-Service Order.

  4. No more than 4 inspections with Log Book violations (11, 14, 70/8 hour rule, no log book).

  5. 4 or less inspections with Log Book violations will require remedial Fatigued Driving training as a pre-qualificationcondition (11, 14, 70/8 hour rule, no log book).

  6. No more than 4 inspections with vehicle violations (driver-inspection related).

  7. 4 inspections or less with vehicle violations will require remedial Vehicle Maintenance training as a pre-qualification condition (driver-inspection related).

  8. No more than 2 inspections with Driver Fitness violations.

  9. 2 inspections or less with Driver Fitness violations will require remedial training as a pre-qualification condition.

Criminal History

  1. Felony convictions within the last seven (7) years will be reviewed on case by case basis.

  2. Felony traffic convictions older than five (5) years will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  3. No controlled substance events within the past seven (7) years– NO EXCEPTIONS

  4. Controlled substance events older than seven (7) years must be considered case-by-case basis.

  5. Multiple misdemeanor convictions involving dishonesty, theft, or fraud are disqualifying events.

Intentional failure to disclose mandatory FMCSA/DOT information on your application that is SAFETY SENSITIVE will be considered falsification. Discoveries of falsification after being hired will be sufficient reason for immediate termination. 
Convictions by an applicant for DWI, DUI, Unlawful BAC, OPEN CONTAINER law VIOLATIONS, or a refusal to be tested in the last 5 years are reason for immediate termination.

Driver Hiring Criteria

At Volume Transportation, Inc Owner Operators are supplement to our general fleet. Owner Operators signed on with Volume receive the benifit of discounted fuel rates, discounted company insurance rates, and administrative assistance.
